The Dukes of Earl formed in 1964 in Hythe, Kent with a line-up of Terry Hughes on lead vocals (b. Terence Hughes), Trevor Williams on lead guitar (b. 1945), Dave Hammond on rhythm guitar (b. David Hammond), Martin Vinson on bass (b. 1947) and Ewart Pinch on drums.

In 1965 The Dukes of Earl changed their name to The Nothings.
