Bexley band The Downs and Outs formed in 1965 with: 

  • Peter 'Pete' Hicks - lead vocals (1965 - 1966) 
  • Alan Johnson - guitar, vocals (1965 - ) 
  • Clive Brown - guitar (1965 - ) 
  • Michael 'Mick' Robinson - bass (1965 - ) 
  • Alan Fuller - organ (1965 - ) 
  • Geoffrey 'Geoff' Bassett - drums (1965 - )

Johnson and Robinson had been in Jason Black and the Avengers.

The Downs and Outs played regularly in the Bexley area - in early 1967 at The Black Prince, Bexley they filled in for The Peddlers.

In 1966 Hicks left and joined South East Blues Band.
