In Summer 1962 The Playboys formed in Dover with a line-up of Dave English on lead vocals (b. David English), 18-year-old Mick Morris on lead guitar, vocals (b. Michael Anthony Morris, Sunday, January 2, 1944, Dover, Kent, England), Pete Inwood on rhythm guitar, vocals (b. Peter Inwood) and Bob Scotcher on drums (b. Robert Scotcher).

Morris had been to Dover Grammar School for Boys, Dover where at 12 he met Jack Castle (b. 1944). They would later join Take 5 (Early 1967 - Late 1970) and later formed Mirkwood in Early 1971 in Dover, who split in June 1975.

In 1963 Hopkins announced his intention to leave The Playboys and go to university and so Inwood agreed to move over to bass and the group was joined by Jake Atkins on rhythm guitar, piano, vocals (b. Brian Atkins).

So, for a short while The Playboys were a six-piece until Hopkins left. Atkins left Dover band The Big Beats to join this group.

In 1965 Atkins left and was replaced by Ronnie Watson on rhythm guitar, vocals (b. Ronald Watson).

In January 1966 Scotcher the last remaining member from The Rolling Stones days decided to retire from playing and was replaced by drummer Roland Langley (b. d. ).

In August 1966 English left. Watson took over most of the lead vocals and they were joined by Keith Adams on rhythm guitar, organ. Adams was from Folkestone, Kent and had been The Thunderbeats. Langley left The Playboys in December 1966.
